I made a knit stitch!

These last two weeks have been full of chaos! I'm starting school in 3 days and I've received some incredible packages in the mail this month!! I finally got my spindle and roving and it didn't turn out too bad! I've only filled up the spindle once and it turns out I didn't use enough twist. In other words, when I try to take my spinning off the spindle, it untwists so I have to redo everything. I haven't quite gotten around to that yet, but here's what my spindle looks like:

Just starting to wind it on

Completed roving. About 1oz.

In addition to these spinning endeavors, I've gotten some actual projects completed, which is always a relief!! Here's how that News Girl cap turned out!

I also finished another hat for a friend. It's just a simple beanie, but I'm actually modeling it instead of my insane stash of Care Bears!

Yay!! Also in the last few weeks I have successfully completed a knit stitch! I've been trying to learn how to knit for quite a while now and I just understood completed how to do a knit stitch. I have been trying to go through the entire stitch all this time and I just now realized, you only go through one loop! So here's an example of my knit stitch row:

Now if only I could keep the rows and edging even and learn how to avoid the awkward loop that always forms! I'm trying to get some straight rows of knit stitches before I move on to purling. Eventually, I'd like to be able to make a pair of socks before my baby boy is born!!

Right now I have some current projects, none of which have started because I've been queen of multiple naps every day. This third trimester is exhausting!! I've had a friend request two of the Newsgirl Cap in smaller sizes for her children and I'm currently working on a cabled beanie for another friend back in Texas. Sometime this week, I'd like to take the wool off my spindle and give it another shot, but I don't see that happening... I'm starting school full time in three days and I'm going to be rocketed into a world of chaos! I'll post when I get a chance and hopefully I'll get some crafting done before then!

Spinning and Hormones

Note to self: Do not delete Picasa photo albums! I had to re-edit most of all the last posts because I so cleverly deleted my pictures from Picasa so the links didn't work on here anymore. Most of the pictures I deleted off my computer and camera as well, so I had to find versions, new copies and some of them I'm just not willing to retake again. So here we go, the new and improved Crafty, Creative and Pregnant blog!

Well, I guess some of you are wondering what I've been up to!

1. Learning to Spin my Own Yarn!
This is a major work in progress, but I'm really excited about it! I've learned how to use a top whorl drop spindle like this:

Etsy Drop Spindle on my to-buy list
I've bought some Pendleton Wool roving from Ebay dyed in blue and white. I currently can't get the pictures off Ebay, but when I get my package I'll post it up here. I watched some of the videos from this great site, ArtofMegan.com, and realized that spinning is way more possible than I though and I don't need a big huge spinning wheel! So there will certainly be some posts coming soon of my spinning adventures!

2. Baby Hats!

I received this awesome cashmere blend of yarn as a RAK recently and since then I've
been going crazy with making lots of hats for my baby BOY! I'm really excited to be making these, and crafting/shopping has been a lot
easier since I found out the gender!

On top of it, I was crocheting some more of these awesome little hats in public and one woman came up to me and started talking to me about them. We got to talking about babies and pregnancy and she told me she just had a baby boy a few weeks ago, so I got to give her one of these completed hats. It was an awesome experience! These hats are also for sale on in my Etsy Shop.

3. Hat for Mommy!

And I figured since I was making all these fantastic hats for my little bambino to be, I would make myself my own hat! This is currently a work in progress and the picture from a completed project. The yarn I'm using is actually very similar in color and density. The button, however, is a silver cetic knotwork button that I originally bought with intentions of crocheting some mary janes for myself with this pattern:

Click picture for free pattern!
I couldn't figure out the sizing issues I was having with this pattern, but if you can figure it out, go for it! They're really cute shoes! :)

4. Being Pregnant!

Bambino Belly at 26 weeks!
Ah, hello third trimester! I'm about to have a baby! This has become more of a reality in the last few months and right now I'm trying to enjoy the last haul of my pregnancy before I loose time for spinning and crafting! On that note, I better get back to crafting rather than blogging! You'll be hearing from me soon, I'm going to try to update more often again! Until then!

Yay Mail!... and Baby Bumps?

Hey all! Oh look, I have follower! Hi there! ...Didn't know anyone really knew about this, teehee. So lately I've been SO zapped of any energy at all. And methinks this is why:

As my pregnancy has progressed, I'm finally getting into my second trimester. FINALLY. The sickness is less often and not as bad, and I'm getting a bit of my energy back. Emphasis on "a bit." I haven't been wanting to do much of ANYTHING lately, which go figure... I signed myself up for lots and lots of stuff this month! Yay, over-achiever Victoria!!

Luckily, I was full of energy today - the sun is shining for the first time it almost a month, thank GOD! Today I wrote 4 post cards, 2 to the states, 1 to Australia and 1 to Norway. I wrote my penpal, finally in the United Kingdom, I wrote a birthday card for someone... I had been wanting to MAKE the birthday card, but I'm really too tired... So I got one of those store-bought ones. I've also been making progress on projects I mentioned in my last post... Here's some pictures!

Square for the Mario Blanket

Terrible attempt at a Mario "?" Bag. Reconsidering projects.

Bag for a RAK project. Needs a strap and pink pocket!

That's all I've really been able to manage, although I've finished the strap for the RAK project bag and pulled out the yarn for the other RAK bag I committed to... Pulling out the yarn and setting it aside counts, right?! ...Okay, okay, maybe not.

Anyway, I've also RECEIVED lots of awesome, awesome things this month! Several greetings cards, some online patterns and stitch markers!

So I've been really happy with all the mail I've received and I'm still working on getting some stuff out. I heard back from some people I sent to already... The recipient of the Ravenclaw hat said her daughter LOVED it and I offered to make some more of the other Harry Potter house colors. The crochet hook I sent was received and all of my greeting cards have made it to their destinations.

Stay posted for more WIPs and finished products and other generally cool stuff!! :)

WIPs

WIP = Work in Progress.

I have a lot of them. I also suck at taking pictures before sending off my projects! I finished the package for the Mother's Day Swap and sent it. However, I did not take a picture of the finished cross-stitch towel because I finished it at 3am and left it for my mother to take with her to work to mail it off at 7am while I was sleeping soundly in my bed. I received pictures that she sent of the towel and here it is:

I ended up getting lots of stuff done today, I sent out a B crochet hook and three greeting cards. I also sent out a Ravenclaw beanie for a 2 year old today. As I previously mentioned, I suck at taking pictures before sending out my projects, so here's a Gryffindor version of what I sent out today:
The one I sent out looks the same, just grey and blue
So that's what got sent out today... As far as works in progress and what I've promised people... And will probably be updating to bitch about because I'm pregnant and cranky, here's what I have going on (these pictures are from other people's projects, I did not make them nor take credit for them):

Nintendo messenger bag for another swap
project bags: pink & black / green & blue

This is the big monster of them all. In this picture, the granny squares are knitted, where as I will be crocheting my granny squares. All 252 of them. I think this is a fair statement of how much I like my boyfriend, even though he's the one who knocked me up and got me all cranky in the first place.

Although, I would like to take just a second to explain that I am VERY excited and happy to be a mommy soon. It was a surprise for sure, but by NO means an accident. The father and I are both excited and we can't wait. I might talk a lot about how I'm cranky and bitchy and hurting, but I'm also incredibly blessed, excited and very happy.

The only other thing on my plate at this moment is making a Birthday card and sending that off (should be quick though.) I -WILL- get pictures this time, even if I have to make a new envelop after I rip the first one open because I forgot! And I have a bookworm swap going on which will include the Nintendo backpack. I'm thinking of putting together a spoof CD of Lord of the Rings songs (Such as "Frodo, Don't Wear The Ring" by Flight of the Conchords), a bracelet I'm going to make that says "42 is the meaning to life," and a few unicorn items. I'm still brainstorming.

ALSO (this is important): I started an Etsy shop. I have no idea how it will pan out and I only have one item for sale (amigurumi eeyore) to see if it's even worth having a shop. Of course once I type that and go to my shop to grab a link, someone's already favorited my item. This is GOOD!

So yes. Go check that out. I'm thinking of adding a LOT more items once I've decided I like it.

Stay tuned! I don't know what's next, but I'm sure it will be interesting!!

What am I doing?!?!

Alright kiddies, here's the low-down: I'm pregnant and I need to do crafty things to keep myself sane or else I will go completely and totally bonkers. And this blog is also so I can keep myself sane.

I crochet, embroider, cross-stitch, scrapbook, macrame, the list goes on... Basically. I like to be crafty and I'd consider myself fairly creative.

Most of what I will be writing about will be things for an INCREDIBLE site called Ravelry. Yes, unfortunately you have to sign up to see/do anything, but it's a crocheter's/knitter's HEAVEN, I promise.

Right now I'm involved in way too many things, but hopefully I'll be able to get posts out when I get some work done. As far as today's topic: Mother's Day Swap!

Ravelry has many groups that you can join, which in turn have events and forums, etc. etc. I've joined one group that does different themed swaps - whether they're in an envelope or package. The idea is that you send me something, I send you something, we all win, HOORAY!

My current WIP for a RAK return package is a cross-stitch towel with the name of the woman's son. I forgot how incredibly time-consuming and tedious cross-stitch is. Add arthritis in my left (dominant) hand and it's buckets of fun! But it's a cute project and I know it's the thought that counts. So for now... My arthritis needs to shutup and I need to find more TV shows to watch while I work on this. :)
